Appearing on Fox News, Kristan Hawkins, Executive Director of Students For Life, explained how the Obama health care plan would kill her cute little white baby “Gunner” and how babies in Britain actually die while waiting in long lines for doctors.

If Obamacare is passed, cute little “Gunner” will not be able to grow up to kill Iraqis and torture suspicious Arabs. If that don’t move you to tears, what will?

What does this have to do with “white” babies?? Don’t black babies or brown babies get CF as well?? Talk about race baiting………what are you, some kind of racist web site??

I wonder where she got her data about UK health care from. She is completely wrong.
Yes, we have socialized medicine called the National Health Service, but that doesn’t prevent anyone topping this up with their own private insurance if they want. Many do. It’s most useful for dental work (which is only subsidised) and to avoid waiting lists for non-urgent procedures. Also, the food is better in private hospitals.
I was reading a story about some medics who set up a free clinic in the Appalachians or somewhere. Thousands of people turned up desperate for treatment, some with life threatening conditions. Yet I can go into any hospital in Britain (or Europe – we have reciprocals) and be treated for anything, for nothing. I won’t be left bleeding on a gurney while somebody checks whether I have health insurance or a credit card that works.
A few years ago I went to my doctor with severe chest pains. I was already off work with angina. Within hours I was on an operating table getting a bypass. The cost to the NHS, including rehab and everything, was about £18,000 but it cost me nothing. As I wasn’t working I hadn’t been paying National Insurance, which pays for the NHS and also pays unemployment benefit.
Now I am back at work and paying National Insurance. It costs me £1.9k a year on a salary of £24k. That’s total ‘insurance’ against being sick or unemployed. It would be the same payment if I had a dependent wife and six children – even one with a severe disability.
The idea that it would take a doctor six months to see an urgent patient is ridiculous. The NHS may have its faults, but it’s a far better system than anti-healthcare campaigners in America are painting it to be.
